January 27, 1950, recommendation to send a letter to the Executive Board of District 10 requesting a refund of $3.00 which was for hall rent for the Huebsh Manufacturing group. This meeting was held for contract negotiating and also they be informed this money was withheld from dues paid to the District and this practice is to be immediately discontinued.  

Motion carried to let Robert Gratz use Lodge 66 office one night a week for income tax service to member. 

February 10, 1950, motion carried that Lodge 66 go on record against the purchase the building located at 2018 N. Oakland Avenue. After a great deal of consideration and deliberation we find the investment is to great to make it a paying program to be beneficial to the rank and file members. 

Motion carried that we are against the proposed pension plan for Business Agents. 

Motion carried to sent a letter to Mayor Zeidler and the 26 Aldermen notifying them of our endorsement of his program on Public Housing and for the Publicity Committee to release our decision to the press. 

Motion carried for Lodge 66 to affiliate with the General Membership Council of 
Milwaukee County Non Partisan League on Political Education. 

March 10, 1950, motion carried to donate $200.00 for the benefit of the Huebsh and Globe Steel Tube groups who are presently out on strike and being victimized. 

Motion to empower the Financial Secretary of Lodge 66 with the right to use his 
judgment on the issuance of a dues stamp to committeemen who are unable to attend the required number of meetings. A substitute motion did carry that those brothers who are now Shop Chairmen and Committeemen come before the Executive Board to state their excuses for not being able to attend their regular meetings or submit their excuses by mail if they are unable to appear for the Executive Board. 

March 24, 1950, recommendation carried to waive the $4.20 due for Lodge 66 notices sent to the Huebsh group notifying those that are about to become delinquent. This is a newly organized shop and the members affected were inexperienced in the functions of the Lodge. Recommendation to send another $200.00 for the strike fund of the Huebsh group. 

Recommendation carried for the Recording Secretary to write to Baily and Sister Minnie Bornkuetter that her letter was read and is being referred to Business Agent Ray Baily where all the calls for help are made. 

April 14, 1950, recommendation carried to donate $100.00 to the strike fund of 
Milwaukee Valve Company.  

April 28, 1950, recommendation carried to notify all Business Agents and the strike committees on the procedure to be followed when paying Grand Lodge benefits to striking members as its prescribed in the Grand Lodge Constitution. 

Recommendation carried to contact all Locals within the District to discuss the 
possibilities of a special assessment which is to be set up as a strike fund for the District. 

Recommendation carried to write a letter to the Grand Lodge in regard to the benefits of the victimized members at Globe Steel Tube. 

Recommendation to accept the excuses of the Alumatic Committee but no punch will be given. The Lodge voted non concurrence on this. A motion was made and seconded to grant a punch on their cards and the motion carried. 

Motion and second to write to International President Hayes in regard to his decision on the charges preferred against Bernie Parker. 

Motion and second to instruct the Financial Secretary to make a list of all members of United Lodge 66 who are eligible to vote. These are to be turned over to the Political Action Committee to see if all eligible votes of Lodge 66 are registered. 

Various shops reported contributions to the three plants on strike. Blatz gave $18.00, Miller gave $75.00 and Wisconsin Machine gave $24.25. Motion to donate $100.00 to the District Strike Fund to be distributed on a per capita basis to the three plants on strike. 

May 12, 1950, recommendation carried to withhold sending letters to the Executive Boards of all the Locals within the District in regard to the establishment of a strike fund with the District. Instructed to write a letter to Business Representative Weber of St. Louis requesting a copy to their Bylaws and Strike Fund. 

Recommendation to deny the request of Wand Belinski, our office girl a $5.00 a week increase in wages at this time. After considerable discussion it was moved to refer this matter back to the Executive Board for further study and to meet with the Business Agent of the office workers Local 9. The motion was carried by a standing vote of 46 to 45. 
 
Motion for the Local to assist those members at the Globe Steel Tube Company 
financially who have been victimized since February 1, 1950. Amended the Executive Board meets with the District Board and discuss this matter of assistance. If no satisfaction is given we will not contribute to the District Strike fund anymore. The amendment was lost and the motion did carry. 

Motion to donate $300.00 to the Globe Steel Tube group for the hardship cases at this plant. Amended that the Committee of Globe Steel investigate the hardship cases and report to the Executive Board before any money of this fund is spent. A substitute amendment was made that the Committee must report to the Financial Secretary in these cases and he be empowered to act. The substitute amendment and motion carried. 

June 23, 1950, recommendation to refer matter of part time workers and their dues and initiating fee to the Business Agent who is handling that shop.  

Recommendation to increase the office girls salary by $2.50 per week. 

Motion to write a letter to Mayor Zeidler a letter thanking him for the appointment of Julius Drowezski to the Civil Service Commission. 

July 28, 1950, motion to go on record to notify the press that United Lodge66 definitely is opposed to anyone signing various petitions which are under the guise of America First but have Communistic leanings.  

Motion to buy a flag for the stage for our regular meetings. 

August 11, 1950, recommended that the tickets for the Gompers celebration be 
distributed among the Shop Chairmen. They shall try to sell these tickets to their shop groups. All tickets and money shall be returned no later than October 13, 1950. 

Motion carried to take a $10.00 ad in the Socialist Party Booklet. 

August 25, 1950, Leslie Gray was instructed to contact Attorney Gratz and find if we were liable if we contribute to Labors Non-partisan League. Brother Gray assured as after talking to Attorney Gratz we were not liable so we contributed $20.00 by Lodge action. 

Motion carried to proceed with plans to have a dance at George Devines Ballroom in October or November. 

September 8, 1950, the Lodge was notified that this hall has been reserved for November 24, 1950 to celebrate our Locals Birthday. 

Motion carried to buy a $10.00 floral spray for the Grand Opening of the District 10 Building. 

September 22, 1950, recommended to send a communication with two tickets to each member for the Samuel Gompers Celebration which will be held on October 31, 1950. 

Motion carried that the Blatz and Schlitz Brewing Companies be commended publicly for their generous offer of free beer for the fighting forces in Korea. In respect for everyone’s personal habits we should ask that the Blatz and Schlitz Brewing Companies offer to bottle a like amount of water. The presidents of these firms shall be sent a communication to this affect. We shall also release this to the Milwaukee Labor Press, Milwaukee Journal, Milwaukee Sentinel and the Weekly Machinist. 

October 13, 1950, motion to donate $100.00 to the Milwaukee County Disabled. This money is to be used to purchase wheel chairs. The motion was defeated by 58 to 22. 

Brother Julius Drowezski was asked to give a report as to what took place at the 
conference in Chicago. He reported that the Executive Council of the International 
Association of Machinists has unanimously endorsed reaffiliation with the American Federation of Labor. He also stated we will receive communications to this affect. 

Motion carried to write a letter to the District and tell them to cease having Business Agents initiate new members into Locals with the exception of newly organized shops. 

Motion carried to have all applications processed by the Classification Committee of United Lodge 66 and if in the event he is a night worker, he is to be referred to the Business Agent for initiation. 

November 10, 1950, motion that Business Agents be notified that all hall rent bills will have to be presented to Lodge 66 through the Trustees for Lodge action and payment and for the Financial Secretary be instructed that he can not pay anymore hall rent for group meetings out of petty cash.  

Nominations for Business Agent and Assistants as well as Lodge Officers were held. 

Motion passed to rescind the action to have a party on November 24, 1950 and instead have this party on December 8, 1950. 

November 24, 1950, motion to have the initiations on the Thursday night before the regular meetings. 

Motion to reaffiliate with the American Federation of Labor. 

December 8, 1950, motion that Lodge 66 send a letter to District 10, all affiliated Lodges and the Grand Lodge protesting the Election Committee decision in removing two names from the ballot for office Assistant Business Agent.  

Motion to donate $5.00 to Ranger District 49 who is presently on strike. 

December 22, 1950, motion carried that United Lodge 66 sign the contract of the Office Workers Local 9, American Federation of Labor.  

Motion carried to elect a delegate to attend the meeting of District 10 protesting the election. Nominated and votes were: Ed Roob, 20 votes and Harold Plumb, 26 votes. 

Motion  to elect three Auditors to work with the Trustees in auditing our books each quarter. After a great deal of discussion the motion was lost. 

January 13, 1951, meeting was called to order and then turned over to the Entertainment Committee who in turn introduced the celebrities who spoke to the membership. They were the Honorable Mayor Frank Zeidler, George Haberman, Frank Ranney, Jake Friedrick and Otto Jirikowic. Brother Jirikowic then installed the officers and presented the certificates of membership to the 45, 35 and 15 year men. 

January 26, 1951, at this meeting were 163 candidates for membership. 

A report was read from International President Hayes denying the appeal from the 
decision of the District 10 Disputes Committee and giving his reason. Motion did carry for United Lodge 66 to further support the Minority Disputes Committee in its appeal to the International Executive Council for a correct decision from that of the International President and further support the Committee in its charges against the District 10 Election Board, the Secretary Treasurer Herman Weismen, the President, August Gamalski and the District Lodge as a whole. 

Motion carried to write to the Wisconsin Federation of Labor that we are considering to reaffiliate and will return an answer as soon as possible. 

The following Shop Groups registered objection to the transfer of Business Agent 
Drejewski from their groups: Logemann, Stroh Die, Milwaukee Gear, Western Metal. Huebsch wants Business Agent Heidenreich to remain with them. Motion did carry that the delegates to District 10 be instructed to advise the District Lodge and Business Agent Baily of the dissatisfaction of these shop groups with the contemplated change. Motion for delegates to meet one-half hour prior to the meeting of the District Lodge and that each shop group should send a delegation. 

February 9, 1951, Brother Wambach recommended that District 10 and affiliates hold off on reaffiliating with the American Federation of Labor because we would be in a stronger position when seeking representation in fields of government. 

It was reported that the shop groups did address the District Lodge regarding the changes in Business Agents and that some of the delegates did not vote as instructed. Brother Schermer reported that as a delegate to the District Lodge from United Lodge 66 he felt that he could not repudiate the Business Agent that Lodge 66 had worked so long for and that at last had been elected from and assigned to Lodge 66. Brother Stachowich spoke at length reciting the order of events at the previous meeting of the District Lodge and justifying the actions of those who voted to reverse the decisions of Business Agent Baily. 

Brother Plum reported for the Disputes Committee saying that they had filed charges against the District Board, the President, the Vice President and the Secretary Treasurer and had written a letter asking for information from the District Office. He was told that the District had placed his letter on file. The Disputes Committee then wrote to International President Hayes asking that the District be ordered to supply the information. Motion carried that letter be sent to District 10 and International President Hayes saying that this Lodge urged and wanted information to be supplied to the Disputes Committee. 

Under Good and Welfare Brother Rathman deplored name calling on the floor of the Lodge. 

Motion carried to send a letter to Business Agent Baily notifying him that there are dropped members at Stehling still working under a maintenance of membership contract and to please instruct the Assistant Business Agent to either have these men fired or reinstated. 

Motion carried for the delegates of District 10 together with the Executive Board meet with the Shop Chairmen and Committeemen at their regular meeting to arrange some strategy to satisfy our membership with reference to shifts in Assistant Business Agents. 

February 23, 1951, Brother Plumb proposed a change in the Bylaws of the District Lodge with reference to the manner of conducting elections. Brother Miller objected to the reading and a motion carried that the proposed change to the District Lodge Bylaws be referred to the Constitution and Bylaws Committee. 

The Recording Secretary was directed by the President to make all communications to the Financial Secretary in duplicate, keeping one copy. 

Brother Plumb reported that the Disputes Committee had no funds with which to secure information desired and read a letter which he had desired sent by the Lodge to Brother Eric Peterson over the signature of the Recording Secretary and a motion did carry to do such. 

March 9, 1951, recommendation of Executive Board did carry to allow Inland Steel Products members to transfer to Tool and Die Makers Lodge 78. 

Request of Brother Plumb to have Lodge 66 pay the expenses of the Disputes Committee in securing the information for the trial was denied. 

Brother George Sorinen, Union Label Representative of the International Boot and Shoe Workers Union, spoke to the meeting saying that union people should be spending union money for union goods. 

A delegate from the Milk and Ice Cream Drivers Local 225 spoke on the subject of the proposed elimination of Sunday delivery and urged all to help oppose this change. Brother Otto Jirikowic spoke on this also and asked members to write to milk companies saying that we want Sunday deliveries. He also spoke on the School Election urging all members to vote “Yes” on School Bonds and “No” on the housing referendum. 

An amendment was presented by the Bylaws Committee to amend the District Bylaws and was signed by four members of the Bylaws Committee. There was a motion to refer the amendment to the Executive Board and the Bylaws Committee meeting together. Motion to refer was lost and motion did carry. 

April 13, 1951, all candidate were initiated by past President Plumb and Brother Ausprung addressed the candidates saying they are now members of a policy making body and each new member should carefully consider each motion as it is offered and vote accordingly. 

It was announced that Sister Mildred Larsen a member of the Relief Committee was very sick. (Editors note, Mildred was the first women to be elected as a delegate to the District Lodge) 

The Education Committee came in with the recommendations regarding the International Association of Machinists School for members, committeemen and officers. 

The matter of the Wisconsin School for Workers was referred to the Education Committee. 

Brother Jirikowic spoke on the dispute between the International Association of Machinists and Millwrights at Milprint and announced that the Machinists had filed an unfair labor practice charge against Harvey Anderson and the Millwrights. He recommended that the members who are working with Millwrights do not cooperate with them. It was felt that we have a very good case and should win. 

Motion carried to notify the Secretary of the District to hold up the referendum we submitted for three months in order to include other changes to be made by the Bylaws of the District. 

Brother Drozewski asked that members encourage their friends and relations in garages to join the International Association of Machinist and urged that all members ask for the Union Shop Card in all garages to aid in the membership campaigns in garages. 

Motion did carry for the District to be asked to coordinate its campaign with other labor organizations in the city. 

Motion carried for the contract at American Welding is complied with, with respect to dropped members who are still working at that shop. Motion carried that a letter be written to the District Lodge asking that when a Business Agent is notified that members are dropped he immediately enforces the contract. 

April 27, 1951, a Brother asked for reduced dues for the Brothers working at Blackhawk in as much as they are no longer being represented by the Machinists. He also stated that these Brothers are being threatened and coerced by the Congress of Industrial Organization. A Brother spoke on keeping the membership remaining at Blackhawk. Brother Drozewski said that relief could be given on dues by letting them just pay the per capita tax. 

Brother Drozewski said that he had a terrific job in the garages. Lodge 510 had every reason to complain about service from their Business Agents in the past. He said the membership drive is soon to start in the garages and that everyone should ask for the Union Card. 

Brother Stolz from the Committee for a Free Europe spoke on the resistance movement behind the Iron Curtain. 

May 11, 1951, recommendation did carry for an application is made to the International Association of Machinists Grand Lodge for permission to charge the Brothers at Blackhawk reduced dues of Grand Lodge per capita plus Sick Fund per capita and to ask the District Lodge to waive the District per capita on these Brothers. 

The following is the report of the Trial Committee in the case of Brother Newell: “Your Trial Committee reports that in the case of Brother Harry Newell, alias Newell card number G96523 it has proceeded under Code “K” of the Grand Lodge Constitution to hear evidence presented by Brother Glen Jirikowic that the defendant Harry Newell did represent the Congress of Industrial Organizations at the conference prior to the election at the Blackhawk Manufacturing Company and then further, the defendant was called to the meeting by on of the Congress of Industrial Organizations officials, asking the company official to call defendant Newell and other to the meeting, held by the National Labor Relations Board on March 26, 1951. Defendant Harry Newell did not deny this testimony and he refused to answers questions as to his part in this conference and election. After due deliberation the Committee found the defendant guilty as charged. After reading this report the Lodge proceeded to vote on the findings of the Committee. The secret ballot resulted as follows: Yes, 93; No, 17; Blank, 7. The verdict of the Trial Committee was upheld by the Lodge.” 

The following is the report of the Trial Committee in the case of Brother Maurar. “Your Trial Committee reports that in the case of Brother Albert A. Maurar, card number W91314, it has proceeded under code “K” of the Grand Lodge Constitution to hear evidence presented by Brother Glen Jirikowic that the defendant Albert Maurar did represent the Congress of Industrial Organizations at the conference prior to the election and did represent the Congress of Industrial Organizations at the election held by the National Labor Relations Board and further did sign the election sheet for the Congress of Industrial Organizations. Defendant Albert Maurar was not present to deny the testimony against him. After due deliberation the Committee found the defendant guilty as charged. After the reading of this report the Lodge proceeded to vote on the findings of the Committee. The secret ballot resulted as follows: Yes, 97; No, 7; Blank, 11. The verdict of the Trial Committee was upheld.” 

The Committee then recommended that a fine of $75.00 be imposed upon defendant Harry Newell. The Lodge proceeded with a secret ballot and the vote was: Yes, 59; No, 28; Blank, 18. The Lodge concurred with the recommendation of the Committee. 

The Committee then recommended that a fine of 475.00 be imposed upon defendant Albert Maurar. The Lodge proceeded with a secret ballot and the vote was: Yes, 69; No, 20; Blank, 24. The Lodge concurred with the recommendation of the Committee. 

Motion did carry to send the report to the International Association of Machinists Grand Lodge and ask for approval to impose the fines as noted. 

May 25, 1951, a former member of Lodge 66 who had withdrawn and gone to Germany presented a withdrawal from a German Union and desired reinstatement into Lodge 66. Motion did carry for this Brother to make application in the regular manner. 

The Recording Secretary was instructed to write the District Lodge informing them that all powers not delegated to the Officers, Delegates or employees of the District Lodge were reserved to the membership and by referendum vote. 

Recommendation carried that Brother Ausprung go ahead with his plans to get a uniform contract in the die casting industry. Also carried that a sufficient sum be donated to provide a quarter barrel of beer for the meeting of the die casting groups. 

June 8, 1951, Brother Plumb read his report on his trip to meet with the International Association of Machinists Executive Council in Washington and the Minority Disputes Committee report was accepted by the Lodge.  

Brother Plumb stated that he understood that there was a deadline of June 15 for the submission of proposed Bylaw changes for the District. Brother Stuart answered that Bylaw changes could be sent in anytime but that June 15 was a convenience to the Bylaws Committee of the District. Motion did carry to send letter to the District requesting for more time. 

Brother Drozewski announced that the organizing drive was soon to start in the garages and that it will be city wide. He asked Brothers to volunteer to help with the drive. 

Brother Plumb said the Delbert Bude was fired from Pabst just before the end of his probationary period and this Brother wants a job in the breweries and Brother Plumb would like to know why he does not get it. Brother Jirikowic replied that this Brother did not want to go back to Pabst and he is next on the list at Miller. 

Motion carried to send a letter to Jake Friedrick congratulating him on his election to the office of Secretary of the Federated Trades Council. 

Brother asked for information regarding what the Lodge had done about reaffiliating with the American Federation of Labor. It was announced that we had unofficially been instructed to delay reaffiliation. 

June 25, 1951, motion carried to take an ad out in the Socialist Party program. 

Brother Specht reported on the meeting of the State Council of Machinists and that he was elected to the Advertising Committee of the Council. He also stated that the Council had gone on record to ask for a Labor Office in the City of Milwaukee. 

July 13, 1951, motion carried to place on file until a future date the communication from the Wisconsin Federation of Labor inviting us to reaffiliate. 

Brother Roob asked for a rising vote of thanks for the new members who elected to remain, after the initiation, and they were given an ovation. This incident gave rise to considerable discussion concerning the lack of attendance of both new and old members. One Brother suggested that the candidates should be required to attend a series of classes. Another Brother suggested a fine for non attendance. Another Brother said that he candidates are told they only have to stay for a few minutes. It was also suggested that the obligation should not be finished until the near end of the meeting. Still another suggestion was that the education of members starts at the shop level, particularly by instructing the Committeemen. It was also suggested that we make a production of the initiation ceremony and add another part to the obligation to take place at the end of the meeting. 

July 27, 1951, motion carried to suspend the regular order of business. Brother Charles Koerner, Treasurer of the Brewery Machinists, was asked to give a financial report. He reported that he was unable to give a complete report because he had not received all the dues. Brother Roob turned the chairmanship of the meeting over to Past President Specht, in order to speak on the matter. After which a motion did carry to send a letter to Business Agent Jirikowic to the affect that any fund if collected by him for the Brewery Machinists be turned over to the Financial Secretary of United Lodge 66 by Saturday noon. 

The Conductor announced that the candidates were read and they were initiated. Brother Peter instructed the candidates, as Past President, and Brother McEvoy spoke to the candidates to the effect that we now enjoy the highest rates of pay in the history of this country. He said that we want candidates to join our union because it is to their best interest to do so. 

August 10, 1951, motion carried to send $5.00 to General Secretary Treasurer Eric Peterson for the strike fund of Bristol Lodge 176.  

It was announced about a meeting at the Courthouse at 2:00 PM on Tuesday about the raising of street car passes and motion did pass that this Lodge is opposed to the raising of the street car passes. 

Motion carried that this Lodge go on record as being opposed to an increase in telephone rates and that the Recording Secretary be directed to inform the Public Service Commission of our action. 

There was a motion we reaffiliate with the Federated Trades Council of Milwaukee and the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor at once. After much discussion there was a motion that did carry to close debate. The previous question did pass. 

A Brother rose to remark that since June 27 the employees of Alumatic Corporation have been trying to get Brother Jirikowic to meet with management to discuss their contract and without success. Motion did carry that the Executive Board be instructed to see that Brother Jirikowic gets out to a meeting with the management of Alumatic Corporation that has been set for Monday, August 12 and that copies of any communication be sent to Brother Baily and to the Executive Board of District 10. 

August 24, 1951, Brother Rothman spoke to the candidates for initiation urging them to always wear their union buttons. 

Motion did pass to send a letter of thanks to the Business Agent for the Ironworkers who twice removed a man who was scabbing at Blatz. 

Motion carried to send a letter of thanks to the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen in appreciation for the actions of those Brothers who refused to pull trains through picket lines into the Schlitz, Pabst and Blatz yards. Motion carried to amend by adding the Firemen, Engineers and Switchmen. Motion amended that United Lodge 6 donate $300.00 to the Brewery Machinists Strike Fund. 

A Brother from Whirlwind stated that the members out there are very discouraged by the lack of service from their Business Agent. The Brother stated that Brother Jirikowic had picked up the dues books out there but had not returned them. The contract renewal is coming up and these members at Whirlwind are worried whether Brother Jirikowic is going to have the time to negotiate this contract properly. Motion carried to send to Brother Baily and to the Executive Board of the District calling this matter to their attention. 

Recommendation did pass that we establish a Brewery Machinists Strike Fund to pay all approved bills presented by authorized picket captains and that this fund shall be under the supervision of the Financial Secretary of this Lodge. Also motion did pass for the Recording Secretary write a letter to Lodge 510 informing them of our action in this matter and requesting their approval. 

Motion did pass to send 10 delegates to the Federated Trades Council meeting. Recommendation was made to compensate the delegates at the rate of $2.00 per attended meeting. Motion was amended and did carry to compensate delegates at the rate of $1.00 per meeting. 

A Brother was reminded that the Constitution provides that anyone attending a Lodge meeting while inebriated shall be guilty of conduct unbecoming a union member. It was suggested that the Application Secretary not permit inebriated candidates to be processed.  

September 14, 1951, under Committee Reports Brother Wambach reported that the District Lodge had interested itself in the problems at Alumatic and Whirlwind. The Committeemen from Whirlwind said that they were still having trouble. 

Brother Miller reported on the meeting of the Wisconsin State Council of Machinists. He said that all Lodges were urged to reaffiliate with the Local and State Federations. This was a big issue. The Wisconsin State Council could not reaffiliate until 75% of Local Lodges in the state had reaffiliated. Brother Miller then reported on the State Federation of Labor Convention. He said that six Local Lodges have reaffiliated but that we are the largest Lodge. The five delegates from the International Association of Machinists received an immense ovation and Brother Miller was treated as an outstanding member of the convention and was put on the Committee of Legislation.  

Motion carried that a letter be sent to our Congressmen urging approval and support for HR244, a bill to raise the wages for the Postal Clerks, and that a copy of the letter be sent to the Secretary of Postal Clerks Local 3. 

Motion carried that a new Committeeman be allowed at Johnson Service to take care of our members in their new plant 4. 

Motions did carry to send a letter to International President Hayes commending Brother George McEvoy for his services and support during the Brewery Machinists Strike. Also to donate $200.000 to the Brewery Machinists Strike Fund for strike benefits for new employees and apprentices and helpers. 

A Brother reported that the contract at Milwaukee Gear expired in June but the Business Agent has not shown up as yet. There has been no meeting although he had phoned their Business Agent and Brother Baily. Motion carried to send a letter to the Executive Board of the District on this situation at Milwaukee Gear. 

September 28, 1951, Grand Lodge Representative Earl Hogan spoke to the initiated members reminding them that we can not sit here because others have put in 60 years of good hard fighting. He indicated that there were three types of Union members, the instrumental type, the ornamental type and the detrimental type. He said that a Union is based on practical religion, the principle of good neighbor, to work together; and practical Americanism, for we live by law. Laws are passed on the urgings of pressure groups, some by the Bar, the lawyers union; some by the medical association, the medical union. Our union is the Association that represents the workers. He suggested that the 8 hour day is too long; we should work for the 6 hour day. When we are satisfied with what we have we are going to lose what we have. 

October 12, 1951, Recording Secretary Stanley Schirmer did resign and President Roob declared the meeting open for nominations. Mrs. Hattie Borisch and Brother Victor Leavens were nominated. The results of the balloting were: Victor Leavens, 22; and Mrs. Hattie Borisch, 29. Sister Borisch was then escorted to the desk of the Recording Secretary. 

Notice of a forthcoming Civil Service Examination was read and all who were interested were urged to take note. Brother Stuart said that all journeymen machinists should send their name into the Civil Service Commission so that when jobs come up they will be sent an application. A Brother asked to have Brother Jirikowic goes up to the Civil Service Commission to look this over. He said that the city had no apprentices and asked where candidates for machinist’s jobs would be promoted from. A Brother remarked that the engineers want to take the title of machinist off the lists. 

Motion of the Executive Board carried to send a letter to Gene Warzyn informing him that he may transfer to Lodge 510 and that he can not get a withdrawal card if he continues to use the tools of the trade and that by the expedient signing a contract with Lodge 510 he would have the privilege of hanging a Union Shop Card in his shop. 
Motion carried that Lodge 66 pay all bills for truck, coffee and donuts and that all bills for benefits and bargaining committee expenses be referred to the Brewery Machinists. 

Motion made that no Business Agent be allowed to spend any money of the Lodge unless they first consult the Executive Board of the Lodge. This motion was amended by including shop groups or members of the Lodge. The motion and amendment did carry. 

October 26, 1951, the letter of resignation written by Hattie Borisch was read and accepted. Victor Leavens as runner up was recommended by the Executive Board to take up the post as Recording Secretary did pass. 

A group from the Brown Deer Division of Badger Meter asked to be initiated by their Business Agent at Brown Deer because of the distance to our meeting hall. 198 persons were involved. Brother Glen Jirikowic asked permission of the Lodge that if he received any more applications from this Brown Deer group before the time of initiation those could become members at the same time.  

Brother Stanley Schirmer our newly appointed Business Agent was called on to speak but instead he with the help of two male members gave a demonstration on how as union members we should all look in the same direction and aim for the same goal. 

November 23, 1951, the Constitution and Bylaw Committee recommended that the Lodge communicate with District 10 and demand that the referendum vote on all of the proposed changes to District 10 Bylaws as proposed by Lodge 66 or any other Lodge be held without delay and the Secretary Treasurer be instructed to obey all of the District Lodge’s Bylaws. 

December 28, 1951, the election of officers for 1952 took place and the results were: 
• President, Jenss 
• Vice President, Rothman 
• Financial Secretary, Gray 
• Recording Secretary, Leavens 

January 25, 1952, motion carried to send six representatives to the Federated Trades Council to work on the Political Education Committee. 

Motion carried that any money from the Brewery Machinists Strike Fund be turned over to the General Fund of Lodge 66 along with the $360.78 so far taken in. 

February 8, 1952, motion carried for United Lodge 66 to officially endorse Mayor Ziedler in the coming election. 

Motion to discontinue the refreshments after the meetings did lose by a voice vote. 

Motion was made to contribute $250.00 towards Mayor Ziedler’s campaign fund. A division of the house was called for the vote was yes, 26 and no 19.  

February 22, 1952, motion carried for Lodge 66 to pay $5.25 for pictures of Mayor Ziedler. 

March 14, 1952, motion carried to send Brother Rothman as a paid delegate to the Milwaukee Urban League. The agenda for the workshops are to cover Fair Employment Practice Legislation. 

March 28, 1952, motion did carry for Brother Leslie Gray to go to Brown Deer once a month to get dues. 

April 25, 1952, motion did carry that a committee be set up by the Lodge to investigate the grievances that come up and to help settle any trouble that comes up in any shop. A raising vote was called for and the vote was yes 33, to no 21. Any lost time will be paid by the Lodge. 

Brother Clement Stawhowic reported that District 10 is going to hire part time help to maintain the grounds around District 10 and they must be retired machinists. 

May 9, 1952, the School for Workers in Madison was discussed. Motion carried that we sponsor one member to attend the School for Workers. Motion was amended and passed that before anyone is delegated to attend the School for Workers that all shops should be posted. 

Motion carried to instruct Brother Leslie Gray to call Brother Baily to find out why the Alumatic Company is not receiving service. 

Motion carried to send four delegates to the Grand Lodge Convention and that the delegates are elected at the first meeting in June. 

May 23, 1952, motion was made for each group to select their own delegates to the National Convention. This motion was ruled out of order by President Jenss. There was a division to appeal made to the chair. That the decision of the chair be sustained.  

June 13, 1952, at this time the four delegates to the National Convention were voted upon as well as four alternates. 

July 11, 1952, motion carried to donate $20.00 to the Grand Lodge to help fight the reactionary medical lobby. 

July 25, 1952, the reading of the changes to be made in the Bylaws as to raising of the dues $.25 a month and allowing for $.50 additional if dues are not paid on time. To go to referendum vote on the 8th of August. There was discussion on the floor about the charging of the extra $.50 per month that those not paid up to the 14th day of the current month. Motion was made to refer back to the Bylaws Committee and the Executive Board the proposition of the $.25 collection. At this point President Jenss ruled all before out of order. Amendment made to the motion to raise the dues $.25 per month per classification, except apprentices. This amendment did pass to be up for referendum vote on August 8th, 1952.  

Motion carried to donate the usual $5.00 to the Clifton Car Lodge 1733, New Jersey who is on strike. 

Motion carried to donate $250.00 to be used in setting up a strike fund for the Milwaukee Die Casting Company group. 

Motion carried to donate $10.00 to the Socialist Party picnic. 

August 8, 1952, Sam Pafkin, President of District 10 International of Association of Machinists Credit Union made a plea before the Lodge for permanent quarters in the District Lodge 10 office building. Motion did carry for the delegates to the District from Lodge 66 to attend the next regular meeting of the District Board to do all possible to get permanent quarters in the District Lodge office building. 

It was suggested that we refrain from beer after the meeting because of the voting on the referendum at this time. 

Motion did carry for Lodge 66 to go on record for endorsing the resolution to have a television channel for educational purposes. 

The official count of United Lodge 66 referendum on Article 3, Section 1, which called for a $.25 increase per month per classification with the exception of apprentices was: 100 yes; 55 no; and 2 blanks. The official count of the referendum for District Lodge 10, Section 2, Article XI was: 122 yes; 33 no; and 2 blanks. 

August 22, 1952, on the matter of quarters for the credit union a man from the Banking Commission had appeared before the Executive Board of the District and it was felt that this matter is very complicated and was referred to a Committee who referred it to the District Lodge who then referred it to the Building Committee and as of yet there has been no action. 

Motion carried for the Lodge to place ads in the Milwaukee Journal, Milwaukee Sentinel and the Milwaukee Labor Press welcoming President Truman to Milwaukee on Labor Day. 

Lodge President Arthur Jenss announced that charges had been preferred against a Brother working at the struck Milwaukee Die Casting plant and thereupon appointed a Trial Committee of Harold Plumb, Stanley Schirmer and Chas Hoerner. 

Motion did carry for the President to appoint five journeymen machinists who do maintenance work to study the feasibility of having a series of courses dealing with various branches of our trade. 

President Jenss stated that we have been having difficulty in making arrangements for the use of this hall. A new hall has been investigated by the Executive Board. The hall is located in the Old Dreamland Ballroom and the Executive Board recommends that we move to this new hall as of January 1, if not sooner, and it did pass. 

September 12, 1952, Donald Schwartz from the University of Wisconsin gave a short talk on the “School for Workers”, at be conducted in the Milwaukee Vocational and Adult Schools. 

The report of the Trial Committee found Walter Witt guilty of not performing picket duty and failed to report for picket duty. The results of the secret ballot was 51 guilty and 3 not guilty. The Trial Committee recommends that Brother Witt be fined $100.00 but this money is to be held in abeyance for six months to see if Brother Witt can be straightened out and become a good union member. The results of the secret ballot was 58 yes and 0 no. The same was done for Sister ----- with the same verdict and disposition. 

The Committee setup to investigate as to whether it is advisable to set up classes in maintenance work reported that these classes should be set up. 

September 26, 1952, the following motions all did carry: to send one delegate to the Milwaukee Urban League at the cost of $2.50; to donate $5.00 to the striking members at Power Products in Grafton; to donate $5.00 to the International Guiding Eyes to help buy some blind person a dog. 

October 10, 1952, the Lodge had two distinguished guests, Brother Lou Hines, personal representative of President Green of the American Federation of Labor spoke on the personal problems facing our United States and then introduced Andrew Biemiller.  

The question was asked, How is Senator Nixon's labor record? Brother Hines answered that Nixon record was very poor in fact he has a rotten record as far as voting in Labors favor is concerned. Senator Nixon has not voted one time in favor of the American Federation of Labor or any other labor organization. 

Andy Biemiller mentioned the fact that he was a Labor Congressman and was very proud to be referred to as just that. He made a short and very precise and to the point speech. 

Motion carried to donate $5.00 to the Lockheed strike. 

October 24, 1952, motions carried to pay the bill for the Alumatic Corporation group but to hold up the bill for the Wisconsin Machine Manufacturing Corporation group and present it to District Lodge 10 because it was a contract negotiations meeting. 

Discussion was held on ways and means of getting the membership to sign and donate for the petition which is to be placed in the Milwaukee Journal and Sentinel as an ad for the Stevenson and Spark men ticket. 

Brother Stanley Schirmer asked members to donate some of their time to the Democratic Organization of Milwaukee County in the mailing and passing out literature for Andy Biemiller and the Democratic Party. 

A financial report was given by Treasurer Walter Peter and he suggested that a Ways and Means Committee be set up to find some way of cutting Lodge expenses and for this committee to meet with the Executive Board. 

The Executive Board did recommend that we withdraw temporally from the Federated Trades Council and the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor but this did not pass. 

November 14, 1952, a motion did pass to dispense with the regular order of business. Brother Clem Stahoviak stated that it was his understanding that tonight’s meeting was suppose to be packed by Brother Ray Bailey. Brother Stahoviak made the statement that Brother Ray Bailey had appeared before the Executive Board last spring and requested the Executive Board of Lodge 66 take enough money from the Welfare Fund to cover the amount of money that Brother Glen Jirikowic had not turned into Lodge 66. This money being from new members of the Brown Deer Badger Meter Plant. Clem said he had received this information from some of the members of the Executive Board of Lodge 66. Glen Jirikowic made a speech in behalf of Brother Ray Bailey that the only true statement by Clem was when Clem said that the Business Agents were supporting each other in the coming election. Brother Ray Bailey refuted the statements and accusations made by Brother Clem Stahoviak. Brother Bailey said he had no recollection of asking the Executive Board of Lodge 66 to mishandle or juggle the funds of Lodge 66 for Glen Jirikowic but also stated that he would not deny that he asked the Executive Board to mishandle the funds. Clem said the remarks he made were true and that he could substantiate his remarks.  

Request made by the Financial Secretary for a $25.00 per month increase in pay. Motion made for non-concurrence on this request. 

Motion carried to dispense with the normal order of business to allow the nomination of officers for 1953. Nominations were held: President, Arthur Jenss; Vice President, Maestro; Treasurer, Walter Pete; Financial Secretary, Leslie Gray and Jack Pattow; Recording Secretary, Ray Stinson and William Fuerst. For Directing Business Representative, Clem Stachoviak; and for Business Agents, Julius Drezewski, John Heidenreich, Art Schroeder, Jack West, Stanley Schirmer and Gilbert Grunke. 

November 28, 1952, motion carried to send a letter to the Committee at Stoker unit praising them for the outstanding job they did in organizing the members at Stoker unit. 

December 26, 1952, motion was defeated to give the Financial Secretary a $25.00 per month cost of living increase. 

A motion was made to have President Art Jenss ask for an opinion from Attorney Max Ruskin in regards to the interpretation of Brewery Contract. A motion was made to amend the previous motion to state that the matter of the Brewery Contract be turned over to the Executive Board of Lodge 66 along with the Bargaining Committee of the Brewery and the Auto Mechanics for them to determine if they can not arrive at a satisfactory conclusion, then the matter should be referred to Attorney Max Ruskin for an opinion. A substitute motion was made that the Executive Board of Lodge 66 is to meet with the necessary qualified people to determine an opinion and if necessary that Attorney Max Ruskin or some other qualified attorney be employed to give an opinion on this matter. 

January 23, 1953, Brother Stan Schirmer made a report from the Ways and Means Committee suggesting that the dues should be increased or the Sick Fund dropped. Motion did pass to continue the Sick Fund. Motion passed to have the members of the Ways and Means Committee to meet with the Executive Board to come forth with a recommendation as to what should be done in regards to the financial status of Lodge 66. One member is to draw up a number of graphs illustrating the financial condition of Lodge 66. 

Motion carried to have the District delegates of Lodge 66 instruct the Business Agents to assist the Shop Committees in explaining why we must have an increase in dues and this should be done at every shop group meeting whenever it is deemed necessary. 

February 13, 1953, motion did carry that our previous stand prevails that if Brother Bailey tries to push Brother B. H. Parker onto us that we shall refrain from paying our per capita tax to District 10. 

Motion carried to purchase two tickets to the One World Conference to be held February 25 at the Schroeder Hotel. The President and Recording Secretary shall be designated to attend. 

Motion carried that Brother Ray Bailey be instructed to follow the procedure as outlined by the Brewery Machinists in regards to the hiring of journeymen at the brewery. 

February 27, 1953,  motion carried to purchase the six remaining tickets for the One World Conference and the six tickets be distributed among the members of the Executive Board. Motion withdrawn and motion passed that anyone desiring to attend the Conference should request a ticket. 

March 27, 1953, the Bylaws Committee brought in a change pertaining to dues. The report was accepted and there was a lengthy discussion on the way this should be explained to the membership. 

April 9, 1953, motion carried to donate $5.00 to the strike fund of Lodge 912. 

Brother Stanley Schirmer gave an illustrated lecture on Lodge Finances and request to raise the dues. A vote was taken to increase the dues by $.50 per month. The results of the vote was 98 yes and 24 no. The new rate of dues will go into affect immediately after Grand Lodge approval. 

April 24, 1953, nominations for a new Recording Secretary took place. Brother Jack Pattow was nominated and the Secretary was instructed to cast a white ballot for Brother Pattow. 

May 8, 1953, motion carried to set up a sum of $100.00 for the purchase of refreshments for our members on picket duty at the Empire Level Company. This fund to be administered by the Shop Committee and Financial Secretary Les Gray. 

Motion carried to send a letter to Grand Lodge requesting permission to circulate a letter to all the Lodges of the International Association of Machinists seeking their cooperation and financial assistance in carrying out this strike at the Empire Level Company  to a successful conclusion. 

May 22, 1953, motions carried to send strike donations to: Lodge 79 in Seattle of $5.00; to X-Ray Lodge 1916, Milwaukee of $50.00; and $50.00 to the strike fund of the Brewery Workers. 

June 12, 1953, motions carried to send strike donations to: Victory Lodge 1666 of Stanford for $5.00; and to the Auto Meib Lodge 1120 of Fort Williams for $5.00. 

Motion was defeated to send to delegates to the Wisconsin State AFL Convention until all shops are posted regarding the nomination and election of such delegates. 

June 26, 1953, motion made for non concurrence in the use of the new application blanks. Substitute motion made to use the new application blanks in conjunction with the old for night workers and where it is physically impossible for the candidate to appear for initiation. The Executive Board to recommend applicant at our next meeting. 

Motion carried to send usual $5.00 strike donation to Lodge 1194. 

Motion carried to concur on the request of Business Agent Gil Grumke for a 30 day extension on the $3.00 initiation fee as an organizing incentive for the Milwaukee Coin Machine Operators Association. 

Motion made to give Financial Secretary Les Gray a $30.00 per month cost of living adjustment. Amendment made that this adjustment be effective the first of this month. A substitute motion was made and seconded to allow Brother Les Gray a $30.00 per month car maintenance and expense. The motion was lost 24 to 13. 

Motion made but lost to dispense with the serving of beer at our regular meetings.  

July 10, 1953, motion carried to purchase a $10.00 ad in the Socialist Party Picnic publication. 

Motions carried to: send $5.00 strike donation to Green Mountain Lodge 1590; and $5.00 to District Lodge 162 to aid in the flood disaster. 

During the vacation period of Les Gray, President Art Jenss is to perform the duty of dispensing the strike benefit to our members on picket duty against the Empire Level Company. All lost time to be compensated by the Lodge. 

July 24, 1953, motions carried: to send $5.00 strike donation to Lodge 924; and for the Executive Board to study ways and means of establishing a strike fund. 

August 14, 1953, motions carried for the following strike donations of $5.00 each to: Franklin Lodge 1136; Riverside Lodge 1104; Flathead Lodge 1760; and Gear Workers Lodge 864. 

Motion carried to grant the request of Business Agent Robert Ausprung for a special $5.00 initiation fee for the employees of the Simplex Manufacturing Company as an organizing incentive. 

August 28, 1953, motion carried to send strike donation: to Key City Lodge 1238 of $5.00. 

Motion carried to sent a letter to the Executive Board of District 10 stating that the “Newly established rates of the areas be negotiated in all our contracts and the Business Agents be instructed accordingly.” 

September 11, 1953, motion carried to: send our usual $5.00 strike donation to Honolulu Lodge 1245; and to grant the request to Brother Arthur Johnson an exemption card for his 42 years on membership and good luck and health on his retirement. 

September 25, 1953, read communications from General Vice President Roy Siemiller concerning that all Local Lodges should affiliate with the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor and City Central Bodies. He stated that we can not take an isolationist point of view where the rest of the labor movement is concerned. He suggested that we not only affiliate but send a full compliment of delegates after affiliation. 

Motion passed that we retain our affiliation with the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor and pay the increased per capita tax of $.065 per member per month. 

October 9, 1953, Brother Clem Stachowiak made a report concerning the IAM Credit Union. He stated that their total assets are $55,000 and that they have rendered a great service during the G.E. Strike to aid our members on strike. 

The following Executive Board recommendations did pass to donate $5.00 each of the following Lodges who are on strike: Sea Air Lodge 876, Vancouver, British Columbia; Industrial Lodge 932, Oneonta, New York; Broward Lodge 1535, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Omaha Lodge 31.  

After serveral motions had been ruled out of order a motion did pass to hold the check for the 1953 per capita tax to the Wisconsin State Council of Machinists until we receive an audit and report back to the membership. 

October 23, 1953, the following recommendations of the Executive Board did pass: to aid the strike of Local Lodge 1503 of Grand Hover, Michigan; and to post all shops concerning the nomination of Lodge Officers for 1954 to be held at our November 13, 1953. 

Motion carried to post all shops in regard to the invitation extended to all the ladies related to any member in good standing 16 years of age or over. To be the guest of the Bluebird Auxiliary 116 at Jefferson Hall, 2617 W. Fond du Lac Avenue on Friday, November 20th. 

November 13, 1953, the following recommendations of the Trustees were concurred in: to raise the  salary of the Financial Secretary $25.00 per month; that all salaries of the other officers, delegates and members of committees to remain the same. 

Executive Board recommendations did carry to grant Business Agent Robert Ausprung a $5.00 initiation and reinstatement fee at the Milwaukee Lace Paper Company for 30 days; and to pay for the four tickets at $2.50 each to the Conference on National Economic Issues sponsored by the Federated Trades Council and the University of Wisconsin School for Workers to be held at the Schroeder Hotel on November 28th.  

Nominations for Lodge Officers were held. 

November 27, 1953, the proposed change to the Lodge Bylaws for the term of the Financial Secretary be three years instead of one was voted upon by secret ballot. The results were 51 yes and 21 no. 

December 11, 1953, Brother Wamback reported on the second floor addition to the District Office building at 624 N. 24th. street. 

Motion carried to destroy the check for the 1953 per capita tax to the Wisconsin State Council of Machinists and to take action next year. 

Executive Board recommendations did carry to: send the $5.00 aid to the strike of Lodge 1120, Port Arthur, Ontario; and that Brothers Jenss and Stuart have full power to act in regards to the refreshments and entertainment at the installation on January 9th. Also to send an invitation to Mayor Zeidler for the installation. 

Motion carried to send a letter to District 10 Directing Business Representative Ray Bailey stating that all halls send a legitimate bill to the Lodge 66 Office for payment rather than have the Business Agent pay in cash.  

That we send a letter to the District 10 Building Committee and Trustees requesting if it is possible for Lodge 66 to hold its regular meeting of the 2nd and 4th Fridays in the new addition and what contribution or fee would be in order. 

January 22, 1954, motion carried to affiliate with Labors Political League. 

February 12, 1954, motion carried to post all shops for a called meeting at our next regular meeting for the purpose of determining whether the Murphy Diesel Group shall be granted permission to charter their own Local Lodge.  

February 26, 1954, Executive Board recommendations did carry to: cancel the committeemen meetings for March and April and urge all to attend the special session of the School for Workers; that Lodge 66 bank $7,000 in a savings account. 

March 12, 1954, Brother Wambach reported on the District 10 Bylaws changes to: increase the term of office to four years; and increase the salary by $100.00 per month. 

Executive Board recommendations did carry to: donate $5.00 to aid in the strike of Pine Tree Lodge 1983; to pay the affiliation fee to the Wisconsin State Council of Machinists. 

Motion carried for our delegates to the District 10 Lodge vote down the proposed changes in the District 10 Bylaws and that the Executive Board of Lodge 66 contact the Executive Boards of all Lodges in District 10 and try to convince them of our stand. 

March 26, 1954, Executive Board recommendation did carry to: send our usual strike donation to Local 1667 of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. 

Motion did carry that we endorse the amendment to the District 10 Bylaws that the Business Agents be elected for a two year term and that the salary be increased by $50.00. All District delegates were to meet at the end of this meeting. 

April 9, 1954, Executive Board recommendations were accepted: that when accepting members by transfer from unions other the the IAM that following shall apply. United Lodge 66 will accept withdrawal cards only on transfer from those unions who will accept our members on transfer; to send a letter to Directing Business Representative Ray A. Bailey stating that he should again gain approval from the Executive Board of United Lodge 66 prior to assigning Business Agent Park to service any shop under the jurisdiction of United Lodge 66. 

April 23, 1954, motion carried to send a letter to the Milwaukee Braves Baseball Club regarding the purchase of milk from a non union dairy. 

May 14, 1954, motion did carry to grant the Financial Secretary three weeks vacation, he presently has two weeks. 

May 28, 1954, discussion was held on the withdrawal of two members from Johnson Service to join Local 200 and the request was denied. 

Executive Board recommendations did carry to: donate our usual $5.00 strike amount to Lodge 703; that a copy to the letter from the Milwaukee Gear Group along with our request for a change of Business Agent be sent to Brother Bailey; and to donate $50.00 to striking Local 833, Kohler, Wisconsin. 

June 25, 1954, Executive Board recommendation did carry to: send a letter to Brother Ray Bailey and the District Board stating that because of the complaint of Badger Meter Plant No. 2 and others, the Lodge 66 requests that proper action be taken and that the request be complied with; that a committee be set up for honoring all old timers of Lodge 66 with 35 years or longer. 

A poem was read by Brother Harold Plumb honoring deceased Brother Gustave Specht. 
 
July 23, 1954, there was a short address by Brother Charles Green, Democratic candidate for the 5th Congressional District.  

Motion passed to send a letter to District 10 Directing Business Representative Ray Bailey and the Executive Board of District 10 as per previous District Lodge action, no Business Agent is to meet with management without being accompanied by at least one member of the shop committee.  

August 13, 1954, motion made that United Lodge 66 sponsor and conduct a contest for the children of our members from the 6th grade to and including high school seniors on the subject, “Why my parents register and vote.” Lodge 66 to provide not more than $100.00 in prizes. The President to appoint a committee of three to draw up a set of rules and run the contest which should be concluded before the November elections. Motion carried to refer the previous question to the Executive Board.  

August 27, 1954, Brother Wambach reported on acquiring quarters in the District Administration building.  

Executive Board recommendations did carry to: donate $5.00 to the Guiding Eye Dogs; to make a one year contract with Pugal Brothers for a meeting hall and that a committee be set up to find a more suitable Lodge Hall; to non-concur in establishing a contest on “Why My Parents Register and Vote.”  

September 10, 1954, motion carried that retired members receiving SS Benefits and who are working part time at the trade shall may dues for alternate months and will receive unemployment stamps for months not paid. This recommendation is subject to the approval of the Grand Lodge.  

September 24, 1954, Brother Clem Stachowiak reported on the slating suggested by the incumbent Business Agents.  

October 8, 1954, Brother Wambach reported on the worsening shop conditions and on the qualifications of Business Agents.  

November 12, 1954, the regular order of business was dispensed with and the report of the Trustees was in order. The Trustees recommended that the salary of the Financial Secretary be increased from $425.00 per month to $100.00 per week. The recommendation was concurred.  

Nominations for District 10 Directing Business Representative were held. Nominated were and the votes: John Heidenrich, 151 votes; Glen Jirikowic, 37, votes; and August Gamalski, 28 votes; in the runoff Brother John Heidenrich won the nomination.  

Nominations for the position of Business Agents were: Ray Bailey, Bilbert Grunke, Julius Drozewski, Jack Pattow, Robert Ausprung, and Clement Stachowiak.

November 26, 1954, Executive Board recommendations did carry to: pay the Brewery rate to tellers for the election; that the December 10 meeting be a called meeting for the purpose of nomination of Editor for the Machinists Monthly Journal as well as for the election of Officers and District Lodge Business Representatives; to grant the usual $5.00 strike donation to Bakersfield Lodge 139.  

Visiting Brother Steve Kuclinski, President of Ladish Lodge 1862, was introduced.  

Brother Harold Plumb introduced Mr. Best, District Sales Representative for the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. Mr. Best spoke on behalf of his company and their union made and labeled products.

January 28, 1955, Brother Clem Stachowiak read a report on the “Right to Work” for less laws and Brother Charles Koerner adding to and concluding the report.  

There was a recommendation but withdrawn that the members at Black Hawk Company will have to pay full dues as of April 1, 1955.  

Brother Clem Stachowiak requested that two members of the Legislative Committee be on the alert for important bills brought to the floor, expecially the “Right to Work” for less law so that they may voice their opinion and also suggested to mention this at the next District Board meeting so the other Lodges would do the same.  

February 11, 1955, Brother Wambach discussed the issue brought up by some of our committeemen at a committeemen and stewards meeting concerning the assignment of new Business Agents to their shops. It seems that some of the committees complained about their Business Agent before they had assumed their new duties. They wanted to keep the Business Agent they had. Brother Wambach feels that this is not a very fair attitude to take toward a new Business Agent. He feels that if the Business Agent does not perform his duties properly then he should be told and proper action taken.  

Brother Frank Pree spoke on and complimented Business Agent Jack Pattow for doing a very good job at the Sewage Plant thus far which goes to show we should give our other new Business Agents a chance.  

Motion caried that we comply to the Grand Lodge Constitution Article J, Section 2, relating to the Tool and Die Makers working at the Schlitz Brewery to transfer into Lodge 66 without further delay. After lenghly debate on the matter and motion carried to stop debate and also to write a letter to Directing Business Representative John Heidenrich and Secretarty of Lodge 78, Joseph Haslinger stating our action.  

Motion carried of the subject of having an organizer in the Lodge at this time be referred to the Executive Board for their recommendation however being that the Grand Lodge has already taken action on this matter to have an organizer it is useless for the Executive Board to do anything about it.  
  
February 25, 1955, Brother Jenss anounced the opening for an organizer in the District which pays $550.00 per month. He also reported that the committee assigned to locate a new meeting place has not at the present time selected one although suggestions of obtaining the K.P. Hall again when the lease runs out at the Labor Temple.  

Motion carried about the matter of taking $10,000 out of the General Fund and putting it into the Building Fund with ten percent of the gross proceeds to be turned into the Building Fund was referred to the Executive Board for further consideration.  

March 11, 1955, Brother Wambach reported that the screening of new candidates for organizer would take place on Monday, March 14.  

Brother Clem Stachowiak reported on a bill in the legislature by Mr. Mark Catlin called the 419A bill which would prohibit labor unions and their officers from participating in political affairs.  

It was also announced that the American Federation of Labor would send pamphlets to all their members on the “Right to Work” for less Law.  

March 25, 1955, Brother Wambach reported on the screening of candidates for organizer and announced that Brothe Clem Stachowiak was chosen.  

Brother Charles Koerner announced that a 1955 Ford two door would be given away at our picnic along with other prizes and stated that the prize lists are being made and will be passed out to the members selling tickets.  

Brother Wambach reported that the Trustees had examined the Collins Meyer Building throughly and stated a report would be made at our next meeting.  

Brother John Shanahan, of Miller Brewery, discussed the jurisdictional dispute going on at Miller with Directing Business Representative John Heidenrich. After lenghtly discussion motion did pass for the Lodge to send a letter to International President Hayes asking for a final settlement on this issue.  

April 8, 1955, motion carried to donate $100.00 with which to buy groceries wholesale for the Kohler strikers.  

May 13, 1955, Brother Wambach reported on the letter received from the Commander of the Collins Meyer Post asking for $33,000 for the building. The Trustees have made a thorough inspection of the building and feel it is not worth the money being asked. Motion carried for the Trustees to continue to look for a new building and we will no longer consider purchasing the Collins Meyer Post Building.  

Amendment was made to the Executive Boards recommendation to send $100.00 strike donation to the Tool and Die Makers Lodge 78 instead of the usual $5.00.  

May 27, 1955, Brother Harodl Plumb spoke on behalf of General Secretary Treaurer J. F. Friedrick fo the Federated Trades Council who is to receive a Doctor of Law Degree from the University of Wisconsin. Motion carried for Lodge 66 in recognition of the sterling example and great Labor Statesmanship of Brother J. F. Friedrick, that Lodge 66 donate $25.00 to the Milwaukee Public Library for the purchase of Labor Books to be dedicated in his name.  

Motion carried to send a night letter to International President Hayes requesting reasons for contract bid being lost by Johnson Service Company to place their product in the new Machinists Building being built in Washington. A copy of the letter to be sent to the District 10 office.  

June 10, 1955, Brother Horst Froelich reported on the proposed alteration fo the Bylaws stating that the Bylaws Committee would go along with the proposed alteration but recommended that the remaining money from the Sick Benefit Fund be designated for the United Lodge 66 General Fund. It should also be stated that the Sick Benefit Fund be stopped on the day the proposed alteration is approved by the International President. Motion carried to accept the recommendation of the Bylaws Committee therefore all shops will be posted in regards to vote for the proposed alteration to the Bylaws at our next meeting.  

Motion carried to purchase four tickets for the Jefferson Jackson Day Dinner and to send President Arthur Jenss automatically and for him to chose the other three delegates. Brother Jenss stated that he would like to consult with the Executive Board on this matter at their next meeting.  

Motion carried to purchase four tickets to the Testimonial Dinner in honor of General Secretary Treasurer J. F. Friedrick of the Federated Trades Council and to have the members present to draw by lots and those selected will attend as delegates of Lodge 66. Amendment to motion did carry to purchase eight tickets instead of four.  

June 24, 1955, Brother Jenss spoke on the issue of keeping employer contracts on file at the District Office and at the Grand Lodge office.  

Brothe Koerner spoke on the preparation of our Lodge picnic and urged all members to try to sell as many tickets as they possibly can.  

Motion carried to pay $15.00 per week to the three committee people of Wisconsin Machine Company which are helping to maintain the picket line at the Company. An additional $10.00 is paid by the Grand Lodge. An amendment to the motion was made that the three mentioned people are the only ones to be paid the $25.00 per week.  

Motion to have a stand up vote on the proposed changes to the Bylaws. After a lenghtly debate on the problem. Motion carried to stop debate. The vote was as follows, 53 for and 35 against totaling 88. Since the 2/3 majority would be 55 therefore the majority was not reached and the proposed change was not passed.  

July 8, 1955, Brother Jenss suggested that a letter be sent to Mrs. Charles Stuart, wife of our deceased Brother Charles Stuart, Trustee, stating how much we had all admired his cooperation and helpful work for Lodge 66 and express our deepest sympathy.  

Brother Clem Stachowiak spoke on behalf of our Mayor Mr. Frank P. Zeidler and his administration stating the good judgement and fast action they had used in regards to the foreign ship which had docked in Milwaukee to unload a shipment of clay for the Kohler factory of Sheboygan. Brother Stachowiak stated we should all be proud of our City Administration and continue to have political action.  

July 22, 1955, motion carried to pay a minimum fee of $45.00 for tuition fee and $15.00 for expenses to our members attending the School for Workers Institute at the Universtity of Wisconsin Madison.  

The election for a new Trustee was held to replace our deceased Brother Charles Stuart and the following Brothers were nominated and their votes: Jack Ritter, 32 votes; Walter Peters, 55 votes; Clarence Borchardt, 10 votes. Brother Peters was elected and swore in as the new truste for the remainder of the term.  

August 26, 1955, Brother Koerner reported on the picnic results stating it had been very successful and a complete report would be given at the next meeting.  

Motion carried to have Lodge 66 donate $100.00 to kelp the Kohler Strikers in their great fight.  

Motion carried to have Lodge 66 donate $20.00 toward “Care” for a food package to be sent overseas. Amendment to the motion to have the Lodge donate $20.00 to the American Red Cross also to help our people in the Northeast flood and typhoon states.  

The tickets were drawn for picnic prizes and the first one drawn was for the 1955 Ford. The ticket was drawn by our newly initiated Sister Mrs. Delores Librera, 3988 N. 29th Stree of Badger Meter #1 plant. The winner was Mister Claude Larson 1118 S. 17th. Street, Milwaukee who is a machinists at Schiltz Brewery.  

September 9, 1955, Brother Koerner reported on the profits the Lodge received from the Union picnic. Motion carried to deposit $2,000 in the IAM Credit Union Building Fund designated as a special fund.  

September 23, 1955, Brother Plum announced that the noon day prayer bulletin pertaining to the Kohler Strikers has been sent to many of the daily press for publication.  

Motion carried that the monthly bulletin sent out by the Public Enterprize Committee be mailed to all Lodge 66 Committeemen and they in turn pass them out throughout their shops. Amendment that the Lodge distribute the monthly bulletin to our Committeemen at their next meeting.  

October 14, 1955, Brother Jenss reported on proposals acted on at the last District Board meeting pertaining to raising the per capita tax for all Lodges in the District.  

Brother Gray reported that something must be done about our Lodge Sick Fund which is continually losing money.  

Brother John Shanahan, Committeeman from Miller Brewery, reported on the jurisdictional dispute at Miller and stated the entire committee was not satisfied with the way it was handled. Motion carried to send a letter, which the Miller Brewery committee had written and signed to our International President Hayes for his consideration.  

October 28, 1955, Brother Koerner spoke on the raise in the District per capita tax for all Lodges and that there would be a referendum vote in the near future.  

Brother Jenss reported on the Christmas Fund to be raised for all Striking Children to be sponsored by the Wisconsin “Win the Strike” Committee and also stated that bulletins would be sent to all Committeepersons to solicit contributions.  

Motion carried to send a letter to the wife of our deceased Brother Edward Schulthies expresssing our appreciation for his many faithful years of service to our Lodge.  

November 11, 1955, Brother Wambach, Trustee, reported on the salaries and expenses of Lodge 66 Officers and stated there are no changes except that the Trustees recommended to change the Federated Trades Council Delegates expenses to $2.00 per meeting instead of the $1.00 per meeting. Motion of Trustees was accepted.  

Brother Koerner reported on the Christmas Fund campaign for strikers children and that all contributions should be turned in by November 30, 1955.  

Brother Cleary Treat reported on the results of the Trial Committee which had been appointed to hear the charges against Brother Clarence Sierck, which were preferred by the Pabst Brewery Shop Committee. Brother Treat stated that the defendant pleaded quilty, therefore the Trial Committee had recommended that Brother Sierck be fined the sum of $25.00. This fine to be paid within the time specified by the Grand Lodge Constitution and that this fine be held in escrow and refunded to Brother Sierck upon condition that he attend one meeting per month when working on the day shift  for one year. A secret ballot was taken and the results were 93 votes in favor and 7 against, therefore the Trial Committee recommendation will stand.

November 25, 1955, Brother Wambach had announced that the sick fund of the Lodge has been depleted. Motion carried to withdraw $1,000.00 bond from the West Side Bank to replenish the Sick Fund once again. 

Brother Stanley Schirmer reported on the Domestic Affairs Luncheon he had attended which was held at the Schroeder Hotel and the main topics were on natural gas and automation. 

Brother Harold Plumb reported on the Public Enterprise Committee meeting be had attended. Motion carried that the Lodge invest $10.00 for a six month subscription to the news letter published by the Public Enterprise Committee and to be sent to all our Shop Committeemen. 

Brother Jenss announced that the Lodge is going to put on a campaign to make sure all our members are registered to vote and that all members should feel it their absolute duty to do so. 

December 10, 1955, Brother Arthur Jenss announced that all contributions for the Strikers Children Christmas Party should be turned in as soon as possible. 

Motion carried to collect $25.00 from Brother Clarence Sierck as prescribed by the Trial Committee and after one year it is to be refunded from the General Fund of the Lodge. Amendment to the motion, one year from this date, December 9, 1955. Brother Sierck’s case will again be brought up on the floor and then the fine will be refunded. In order to be sure Brother Sierck attends every meeting he is to be issued a credential card same as the committee people have. 

Motion carried for a letter proposed by Brother Harold Plumb expressing employees thanks to their employer for receiving Christmas Presents and Bonuses to be sent to Company designated by our membership. Leave name with the Recording Secretary. Amendment to the motion: the word bonuses should be stricken from the motion because they are part of the employee’s earnings. 

Brother Gray announced members that have submitted an approved claim for sick benefits and have not as yet collected will be paid as soon as possible because the Fund had temporarily been depleted; however the Fund has now been replenished and all claims will be taken care of. 

December 23, 1955, extended time for initiation was granted to Brother Erastus Olney because he is a road man and has had difficulty arranging this time to be initiated. 

Executive Board recommended sending four of our members to attend the World Affairs Conference to be held at the Schroeder Hotel. Amendment to send all delegates to the Federated Trades Council if the desire to go. 

Brother Harold Plumb spoke on the plans to register our members. Motion carried to have the Executive Board to reconsider their recommendation which pertained to all new applicants to be registered voters before being initiated, if conditions permit. 

January 27, 1956, Brother Gray spoke on behalf of Mayor Zeidler and asked all members to help support him in the next election and urged everyone to get out to vote. 

Brother Jenss reported on the District Board Meeting which new officers were elected to the District and that he had been elected as President of the District Board. 

Brother Les Gray reported on the complaints of our Committee People against various Business Agents and he asked that the Committees cooperate more closely with the Executive Board and all complaints would be taken care of. 

February 10, 1956, Brother Bill Wambach reported on the dispute which has occurred at the Miller Brewery Company and stated we should all be concerned and do something about it because of the past practice of the bad decisions handed down by the Dispute Committee. 

Brother John Shanahan, Shop Chair at Miller Brewery, announced that all Brewery Machinists are going to have a meeting on the dispute and appear before the Executive Board with full details in the near future. 

Brother Wambach reported on the meeting of the Alumatic Shop Committee with the Lodge Executive Board in regards to the behavior of their Business Agent. The Business Agent and the Directing Business Representative were also present and an agreement was reached to the satisfaction of everyone concerned. 

Motion carried to deny the request for application of initiation into Lodge 66 by Joseph Ronkowski, employed at Logemann Brothers and motion carried to refer the case to the Executive Board and to have the Shop Committee along with the defendant appear to give full details.  

Brother Plumb announced the Education Committee would like to arrange a half hour program for Brotherhood Week for our next meeting and to start at 9:00 PM. Two speakers will be present and they are Father John Maddigan of Marquette University and also our Honorable Mayor Frank P. Zeidler. 

February 24, 1956, Brother Wambach reported on the meeting which was held by all Brewery Machinists in regards to their dispute with the Mill Wrights at Miller Brewery and the Lodge 66 Executive Board did attend. 

March 9, 1956, motion carried to send letters to our Senators asking them to support the new Social Security Bill No 7225 and the Longshoreman Compensation Act No S2280. 

Brother Clery Treat of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee announced that the Bylaws Committee recommended that the Sick Fund be abolished and propose the following amendment: That Article 7, titled Sick Benefit Fund, containing seven sections be discontinued and all funds in said fund revert to the General Fund. This amendment to be effective on the date of approval by the International President and effective that date no further sick benefits will be paid. Motion carried to accept the recommendation of the Bylaws Committee and therefore all shops will be posted in regards to vote for the proposed amendment to the Bylaws at our next meeting. 

Motion carried for Lodge 66 to send Business Agent Jack Pattow to attend the University of Wisconsin Time Study Classe at Madison and also to be given $50.00 to cover advance expenses. Brother Pattow announced his appreciation and gratitude to the Lodge membership. 

Brother Jenss reported on the meeting he had attended along with Brothers Otto Jirikowic, Herman Specht and Clem Stachowiak with union labor representatives from Germany. He gave out the agenda and that they were given trade union pins make them honorary members of the German Brothers Union. 

March 23, 1956, motion carried that the new proposed amendment to the Sick Fund be voted on before the initiation of new members. Brother Treat explained the reason for the new amendment. A secret ballot was taken and the results were 64 yes and 14 no. Therefore the amendment was accepted and proper action taken and to send a letter to the International President for approval. 

Brother Wambach, delegate to District 10 Executive Board, stated that he is very disturbed that the Executive Board report from District 10 is not being reported on in time, the meeting is adjourned before the report is given. Brother Wambach suggested that the Directing Business Representative and President Jenss be present at the Board Meetings to make sure reports are given on time. 

Brother Charles Koerner, delegate to the District 10 Bylaws Committee, reported that radical changes are going to be made in the District and requested the membership to support Labor Party League candidates in the spring election. 

Executive Board recommendation made that no one shall be sent by Lodge 66 to the General Staff Conference and Grand Lodge Dedication in May. Motion passed that the Executive Board recommendation be noncurrence. Business Agent Jack Pattow explained reason for request of one Business Agent and Organizer from District 10 is sent to the Conference. Motion passed to send one Business Agent, namely Jack Pattow, and one Organizer, Brother Clem Stachowiak to attend the General Staff Conference with expenses to be paid by Lodge 66. Amendment to motion was to send the President of Lodge 66, Arthur Jenss, also for the opening two days with expenses to be paid by the Lodge. 

April 13, 1956, Brother Clem Stachowiak announced that most of our Labor Party League endorsements were victorious in the April 3 Election which meant that all of Labor is doing a fine job and should continue to do so in the coming election. 

April 27, 1956, Brother Les Gray reported on the new program introduced at a Federated Trades Council Meeting which entitled disabled person to receive aid and suggested that all members check into the new program. 

Suggestion was made to post all shops to solicit can goods and donations for the Rueping Strikers at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. 

Brother Les Gray reported on the strike which is presently in progress at the Product Miniature Company. 

Executive Board recommendation made to have nominations and election of delegates to the Grand Lodge Convention to be held at our first regular meeting in May and for all shops to be posted and miscellaneous members to also is notified. Amendment to recommendation was to send four delegates from Lodge 66 to attend the Grand Lodge Convention on September 4, 1956, in San Francisco, California. 

May 11, 1956, the nomination and election of delegates to the Grand Lodge Convention was held and the delegates are: Brothers Arthur Jenss, Bill Wambach, Leslie Gray, and Charles Koerner. 

May 25, 1956, Brother Clery Treat, Chairman of the Entertainment Committee, announced a picnic has been planned for Lodge 66 members only, on July 7, 1956, at Wilson Park. Admission will be by dues book and ticket only. Tickets are $1.00 per adult and will be issued for sale in the near future. 

Motion carried to send Congressman Zablocke’s Foreign Affairs report pamphlets to each Lodge member in the 16th. Ward, at the Congressman’s expense.  

Executive Board recommendation was made to have our delegates to the Federated Trades Council oppose the raise of per capita tax to the Council and a letter to be sent to Brother J. F. Friedrich to have a representative meet with the Board at their next meeting to explain the reason for the raise of per capita tax and also to answer the following questions: number of Locals that belong to the Council; what membership is of each Local; how much per capita tax each Local pays; and also the circulation of the Milwaukee Labor Press. Motion made to non concur on Executive Board recommendation. After discussion the vote was lost. Motion passed to concur with the Board recommendation. 
 
June 8, 1956, Brother Wambach spoke on the proposed changes to the District Bylaws. 

Executive Board recommendation made was to have our delegates to the Federated Trades Council oppose the raise of per capita tax to the Council. Motion was made for non concurrence on the Executive Board recommendation. A vote was taken and motion was lost. Motion passed to support the Executive Board recommendation. Brother Otto Jirikowic reported on the reasons for the raise of per capita tax to the Council. Motion was made to reconsider the previous action. A vote was taken and the 2/3 majority was not reached, therefore motion for reconsideration of previous action was lost. 

June 22, 1956, motion was made for Lodge 66 to purchase a $100.00 rehabilitation package for CARE and to have it sent to India. A vote was taken and motion was lost. 

Motion passed to send a letter to Directing Business Representative John Heidenreich stating in the future that any men hired for Brewery Machinists jobs shall first be screened by Lodge 66 and are required to have six dues stamps in their book. 

July 13, 1956, announcements were made in regards to the Labor Day Rally program to be held September 3, 1956 at the Milwaukee Arena at which President Harry S. Truman will be a special speaker along with an all star entertainment program. Tickets are being sold for $1.00 each. 

Brother Charles Koerner reported on the changes in the resolutions to the District Bylaws and stated they would soon be up for a referendum vote all shops would be posted. 

Executive Board recommendation was made to post all shops in regard to the sale of tickets for the Labor Day Rally and tickets to be issued to our committee people to sell to their members. Amendment to the Executive Board recommendation was to give two free tickets to each member present at our first regular meeting in August and to post all shops in this respect. 

July 22, 1956, motion passed to start a campaign involving our Lodge membership to discover how many members are registered to vote and how many are not registered. Two of our retired members would set up the campaign. There was an amendment to the motion to allow $15.00 to each per week to compensate getting the material distributed and it did pass. 

Motion carried to raise expenses of our Delegates elected to the Grand Lodge Convention from $15.00 per day to $20.00 per day. Amendment to motion was, anything in excess of $15.00 because of high cost of living in California, would be made up by the Lodge, but not to exceed $20.00 per day and it did pass. 

August 10, 1956, motion carried to send a letter to the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors stating that the Lodge 66 membership is in favor of the Kohler Boycott Program being proposed by Local 833, UAW, AFL-CIO. 

Announcement was made that each member present would receive two free ticket to attend the Labor Day Rally being held September 3 at the Milwaukee Arena. Motion carried that any 2nd or 3rd shift members requesting tickets to the Labor Day Rally shall also be issued two tickets. 

Executive Board recommendation was made to contribute $5.00 to Region #10, United Auto Workers to assist in their radio announcements pertaining to their “Buy Union Made Plumbing Products” campaign which is broadcast daily on two of our Milwaukee radio stations. Amendment was made to contribute $56.00 however the amendment was lost for want of a second, therefore the Executive Board recommendation was accepted. 

August 24, 1956, motion carried that each member present would receive two free tickets to attend the Labor Day Rally at the Milwaukee Arena. 

Motion carried that the officers of the Executive Board of Lodge 66 be informed to once again continue negotiations with District 10 in regards to renting the District Hall for our regular meetings. 

September 14, 1956, movie entitled “It is Time For Thanks” sponsored by the Local Red Feather Agencies was shown to the membership. 

Motion carried to have Congressmen Henry Ruess speak on wild life preservation and conservation at our second meeting in October. 

Motion made to dispense with the summer work schedule of the office girls, pertaining to one girl at our regular meetings to collect dues, and instead to once again revert back to having two girls at all our regular meetings to collect dues. Discussion followed. Motion carried to table the previous motion until the next meeting at which time the Financial Secretary would be present to answer any debated questions. 

September 28, 1956, Brother Clery Treat of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee reported on the Committee recommendations to the proposed changes to the Bylaws of District 10. All amendments were thoroughly discussed by the membership. Motion carried to send notices to each Lodge 66 shop explaining each proposed change and the Bylaws recommendation so that the membership will fully understand when they vote on the referendum ballot. 

Motion carried that Lodge 66 donate $10.00 to the strike bound Lodges instead of the usual $5.00 donation providing of course the letter bears the seal of the sending Lodge. 

Executive Board recommendation was made to reverting back to the Lodges regular schedule of having our two office girls present at all our regular meetings to collect dues. Motion carried to concur with the recommendation. There was more discussion. Motion was made to have both office girls stay the entire duration of the meeting. Motion was lost for want of a second. 

Executive Board recommendation to hold the election of the proposed changes to the District 10 Bylaws at our present hall, the Labor Temple, on October 10. Motion did carry. A motion did carry to pay the two tellers $2.95 per hour not more than a eight hour day. 

October 12, 1956, motion carried to send a letter to the International President of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, Brother George Meany, explaining the Lodge 66 memberships resentment to the remarks made by the President of the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor, Brother George Haberman, at a gathering of the Society for Advancement of Management at which time Brother Haberman spoke harshly towards the Congress of Industrial Organization Unions. Motion and second to lay over the previous motion until the Executive Board of Lodge 66 can review the charges made by Brother Haberman and then report back to the Lodge. A vote was taken and motion was lost for lack of majority, therefore the previous motion is carried. 

Motion carried for Lodge 66 to send suitable letter to all non registered members explaining their responsibilities of registering and voting in the fall election. 

Executive Board recommendations did carry to: send four of the Officers to attend the Stevenson-Kefauver Fund Drive Dinner; to hold referendum vote on the amendments to the International Association of Machinists Grand Lodge Constitution changes at our last meeting in November; to grant to Brother Emanuel Farrell the $100.00 sick fund payment accumulated prior to closing of the Sick Fund. He was unemployed since 7/1/1955; to withdraw $5,000.00 from the General Fund and deposit it in the First Wisconsin National Bank, 2nd ward branch; to purchase a new Remmington Adding Machine and stand for the Lodge office for a total of $432.30. 

October 26, 1956, Mr. Goessl representative from the Milwaukee Public Museum spoke at our meeting on behalf of the referendum vote for our new museum. 

Congressman Henry Ruess spoke on three major issues: the $1.25 minimum wage, Social Security and a reduction in our income taxes.   

Brother Clery Treat reported on the results of the Trial held on Brother Henry Sauer, on charges on conduct unbecoming a Union member. The Committee stated the Brother did not violate Article K of our Grand Lodge Constitution and therefore recommended a plea of not guilty. A secret ballot was done and the results for concurrence were: 65 yes and 18 no with 2 blank. 

There was discussion by membership with motion and second that no member shall work with tools of the trade after 8 hours without getting time and one half at the contract they are working at and all employees be notified. 

There was discussion of the membership with motion and second that the Union Shop Committees report to management any man holding two jobs in their shop. 
There was discussion of the membership  and motion carried to rescind the previous motion. Vote was taken and motion was rescinded by the necessary 67% majority vote. 

November 9, 1956, Brother Harley Nickerson, a retired Grand Lodge Vice President, attended our meeting and spoke to the membership in regards to having a strong and successful organization. 

Motion carried to dispense with the normal order of business and to carry on with the nomination of Lodge Officers, Delegates, Directing Business Representative and Business Agents. 

Brother Wambach reported on the salaries and expenses of Lodge Officers and Delegates and made the following recommendations and all did carry: 
• Financial Secretary to be increased $20.00 a month, present salary is $100.00 per week. 
• President to be increased from $80.00 a quarter to $100.00 per quarter. 
• Recording Secretary to be increased from $80.00 per quarter to $100.00 per quarter. 
• Treasurer to be increased from $80.00 per quarter to $100.00 per quarter. 
• Vice President and Trustees to be increased from $44.00 per quarter to $64.00 per quarter. 
• Conductor and Sentinel to be increased from $12.00 per quarter to $18.00 per quarter. 
• Application Secretary to be increased from $15.00 per quarter to $21.00 per quarter. 
• Assistant Application Secretary to be increased from $12.00 per quarter to $18.00 per quarter. 
• Classification Committee to be increased from $12.00 per quarter to $18.00 per quarter. 
• Federated Trade Council Delegates and District Board Delegates to be increased from $2.00 per meeting to $3.00 per meeting. 

Brother Wambach reported on the arrangements made for renting the District 10 Hall for our future regular meetings. Motion carried that we transfer our meeting place to the District 10 hall at the start of 1957. Motion made to lay the previous motion on the table until a different hall can be found. Discussion of membership did follow. Vote was taken and motion was lost for lack of majority, therefore the previous motion stands and the Trustees were informed to make arrangements with the District on renting the hall for all future meetings. 

Nomination for Directing Business Representative was John Heidenrich, unopposed.  

Nominations for Business Agents and vote was: Jack Pattow, 116 votes; Ray Baily, 107 votes; Gilbert Grunke, 94 votes; Joseph Kroll, 66 votes; Julius Drozewski, 99 votes; Rudy Pawleit, 106 votes; and Joe Micusek, 88 votes. In a run off the winners were Brothers: Jack Pattow, Ray Baily, Gilbert Grunke, Julius Drozewski, Rudy Pawliet and Joe Micusek. 

The following were nominations for Lodge Officers: 
• President, Arthur Jenss 
• Vice President, Charles Koerner and John Shanahan 
• Recording Secretary, Leonard Kurczewski 
• Treasurer, Raymond Luedke 
• Trustee, Walter Peter and William Gaulke 
• Sentinel, Robert Kriemmer 
• Conductor, Clarence Krebs 
• Application Secretary, Mildred Larson and Hattie Borisch 

In the election of Application Secretary the one receiving the largest amount of votes will be elected as the Application Secretary and the one with the less votes will be elected as the Assistant Application Secretary. 

Motion carried to place on the ballots all Officers and Delegates that have opposition. Where they have no opposition names will not appear on the ballot. 

November 23, 1956, motion carried that the rate of pay for the tellers in the December 14 elections would be $2.95 an hour for an eight hour day. The polls will be open from 12:00 PM until the close of the meeting on that night. 

Executive Board recommendations did carry to: discontinue the Lodge subscription to the Labors Daily Inc. paper since we already have the two labor papers, the “Machinists” from the International and the “Milwaukee Labor Press”; to send the usual strike donation of $10.00 to Lodge 758 of Burbank, California. 

December 14, 1956, the following Executive Board recommendations were concurred: to send invitations of our Annual Installation of Officers Party to the following people, Mrs. Charles Stuart, Mrs. Edward Schulties, Mrs. Max Grass, International President A. J. Hayes and General Vice President Roy Siemiller; to deny the request of the Badger Meter Brown Deer group for the removal of their present Business Agent because their reason is not legitimate; that a Christmas gift of $25.00 be given to the Lodge 66 office staff. 

February 8, 1957, Brother Jenss announced that all International Association of Machinists members are eligible to join our IAM Credit Union.
